3M Self-check and Stunnel setup with Alma

We operate an individual stunnel install per self-check machine. We decided to do it this way – rather than set up one Stunnel server for all self-check machines – because of the following reasons:
  • No single point of failure with stunnel installed on each self-check machine.
  • No need to provision a Linux VM, would be yet another VM to maintain.
We are currently in the process of setting up stunnel on a dedicated Ubuntu 14 VM for the purpose of laptop loans: The supplier software (by a company called Bretford) does not run Windows or any O/S that would allow an individual stunnel install and so we are forced to set up a dedicated server.
