Alma Analytics – Transaction Expenditure Amounts for Physical and Electronic Resources

In the January 2019 Alma Analytics release new fields were added to Funds Expenditure subject area “Fund Transactions” folder.
These new fields are pre-filtered measures by

  1. type of expenditure
  2. type of POL.

The “type” here may be “physical”, “electronic” or “general”.

These measures are useful for viewing trends and statistics for print and electronic expenditures as well as PO lines.
As with all trend analysis, this can be useful for future budget and resource planning.
The new measures are as follows:

  1. Transaction Expenditure Amount of type Electronic Format
  2. Transaction Expenditure Amount of type General Format
  3. Transaction Expenditure Amount of type Physical Format

  1. Number of POLs of type Electronic Format
  2. Number of POLs of type General Format
  3. Number of POLs of type Physical Format

In the April 2019 release a new default report using the “Transaction Expenditure Amount” measures will be added to the official version.
The report is called “Expenditure trends for physical and electronic resources”.
It will be added to the default reports and dashboard at /shared/Alma/Acquisitions.

The report compares the measures in a graph and in a table of all closed fiscal periods beginning 10 years ago.

Below is a sample of such a report.  It is typical of many institutions in that many fiscal periods ago the expenditure for physical resources was more than that of electronic resources.  Then the paths crossed with a sharp increase in electronic and sharp decrease in physical, such that the expenditure amount became greater for electronic than for physical.  Eventually, as seen in the graph, the pattern “steadied” whereby electronic expenditure is still increasing, physical expenditure is still decreasing, but not with the sharp increase /decrease rates previously seen.
