How to install and use the Invoice Line Tax Calculator cloud app

The Invoice Line Tax Calculator cloud app (see also these directions on the github) allows the staff user to to configure tax rates per invoice line type and have multiple invoice lines of multiple invoices get updated in batch. When the staff user selects invoices from a list in Alma, the app shows the new tax rates per line and then updates the invoice lines with the specified VAT percentage.  

The screenshots and flow below is effective as of the April 2021 Alma release.

To install the “Invoice Line Tax Calculator” cloud app:


On top right of the Alma landing page click the link to the Cloud App Center


In the “Available Apps” column find the app “Invoice Line Tax Calculator” and click it.  You can find it by scrolling through the list or by using the search icon.

Install it by clicking “Install”.


The app will then appear in the installed apps tab and you can open it


Begin configuring the Invoice Line Tax Calculator Cloud App.

We will now define the tax rates to be used for each invoice line type.  In order to do this click the three dots on the top right and then the cog wheel settings icon.


In the Invoice Settings screen, enter the desired tax rate for each invoice line type.

It is also possible to set a single value for each type via the “Set all” option at the bottom right. When done click “Save”.

Here we have defined that the invoice line of type “Regular” will have a tax rate of 17%.  No other invoice line types have been defined.


Now it is possible to update invoice lines via the app.

Navigate to a list of invoices, for example by searching for invoices or viewing invoices in review (Alma menu > Acquisitions > Receiving and Invoicing > Review).

When the list of invoices appears, select the desired invoices from the list in the app and then click “Apply tax settings”.

Here is an example.  Invoice PO-208715 has three invoice lines.

  1. Type “Regular” for 40.00 EUR
  2. Type “Regular” for 20.00 EUR
  3. Type “Shipment” for 5.00 EUR


From the Cloud App select the desired invoice(s) and click “Apply tax settings”

From the resulting screen click “Update Invoices”.

Receive confirmation message:


Look at the results.   See changes made by the Cloud App.

  • The invoice line of type “Regular” which was formerly 40.00 EUR is now 46.80 (that is an increase of 17%).
  • The invoice line of type “Regular” which was formerly 20.00 EUR is now 23.40 (that is an increase of 17%).
  • The invoice line of type “Shipment” which was formerly 5.00 EUR is now still 5 EUR (no increase because we defined a percentage only for type “Regular”)


For the invoice lines that were changed you will see VAT % 17 is now in the VAT section of the invoice line.  This change was made by the Cloud App.


In the “Summary” tab of the invoice you will see that the “VAT per invoice line” is now checked.  This change was made by the Cloud App.
