The HathiTrust Availability cloud app queries the HathiTrust API to look for availability for each displayed BIB record. Match is done based on OCLC, ISBN, and ISSN numbers as cataloged in the record.   It uses the following external website:

Information on how the calculation for the HathiTrust availability is done is listed here:

The screenshots and flow below is effective as of the Aug. 2020 Alma release.

To install the “HathiTrust Availability” cloud app:

On top right of the Alma landing page click the link to the Cloud App Center

In the “Available Apps” column find the app “HathiTrust Availability” and click it.  You can find it by scrolling through the list or by using the search icon.

After clicking the app you can click the link to read more about it on the app center or click install.  We will click install.

The app will then appear in the installed apps tab and clicking it will activate it for use

After clicking the app to activate it we will perform a physical titles search on field “Subjects (LC)” for “Women’s Studies” and facet by “Book”.  Note that on the top right we clicked the “Pin” icon to pin the app so that we see the remainder of the screen automatically adjusted (parts of the search results are not hidden “under” the app).

Note that for each of the records there is an indication in the app of whether or not there is a HathiTrust record at and if so what the availability level is.

We see above that, for example,

  • Title “Women’s Health Office Act of 2002” does have a HathiTrust record
  • Title “Vrouwenlevens : honderd jaar vrouwen” does not have a HathiTrust record

The app looks for a match based on OCLC, ISBN, and ISSN.

Title “Vrouwenlevens : honderd jaar vrouwen” in Alma does not have a match on one of these fields in

Title “Women’s Health Office Act of 2002”  in Alma does have a match on one of these fields in It matches on the OCLC number 50648824:
